Rheinhessen is located in the large triangle at the Rhine bend between Mainz, Worms and Bingen. With its 26,516 hectares of vineyards it is the largest German wine-growing region. Famous are the Rieslings, followed by the classics Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and as the joker the Scheurebe.
Approximately 1 / 3 of the vineyards are dedicated to red wines. Dornfelder grapes prevail but classics like Pinot Noir and Portugieser are also present.
But the region has more to offer. Nowhere else in Germany the sun shines more than in Rheinhessen. Sheltered by the hills and heights against cold winds you'll find the best conditions for relaxing bicycle rides along the Rhine terraces or cross-country through the vineyards. Extended hikes are recommended and a wide variety of restaurants and accommodation is on offer. Nordic Walking routes are numerous and available for everyone.
